Current Positions

RA/Senior RA, Application Sciences

GRO Biosciences (GRObio) is hiring a Research Associate (RA) or Senior RA to advance the company’s recoded organism technology. Recoded organisms enable efficient production of proteins using an expanded amino acid alphabet. An expanded amino acid alphabet allows us to build proteins with novel functions and properties. Come work for a biotechnology company that doesn’t have to play by the rules of its competitors. With the tools at GRObio you’ll have the opportunity to solve problems once considered impossible.

The individual selected for this position will work in Application Sciences and will facilitate early-stage product development. Regular activities will include planning and carrying out experiments throughout our product development pipeline, including cell line development, biomass generation, protein purification, protein characterization, and bioassays. This position will interface heavily with team members from other groups, including with members of the biofoundry to develop automated, high throughput workflows and with members of the process development team to develop scalable production procedures for our therapeutic candidates. There is substantial growth opportunity within the company for the capable candidate.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute in diverse ways to the development of an early-phase startup with evolving goals
  • Work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, matrixed research environment
  • Generate biomass, express, and purify proteins using a variety of biochemical techniques, including affinity chromatography, TFF, FPLC, and HPLC
  • Characterize proteins using biochemical assays including gel electrophoresis, capillary electrophoresis, thermal melt, mass spectrometry, and functional assays
  • Diligently record progress in our electronic lab notebook and LIMS systems
  • Clearly communicate results and recommendations with the team both in-person and online

Qualifications:

Requisite Experience –

  • Flexibility and courage to work in new and unfamiliar areas
  • Requisite experience
  • MS degree (or BS/BA degree plus at least 1 year of research experience) in biology, microbiology, biotechnology, synthetic biology, systems biology, biological engineering, or other related field
  • Laboratory research experience in at least two of the following areas:
  • Molecular biology
  • Microbiology
  • Protein purification
  • Protein characterization
  • Assay development

Preferred Experience –

  • Previous experience in biotech or pharma
  • Working experience in scalable bacterial culture and/or protein purification
  • Familiarity with automation methods and equipment
  • Experience in immunology, cell biology, and/or animal studies
  • Familiarity with protein modeling tools
